Pixlr is one of the longest-running online photo editors, and it remains a favorite for people who want Photoshop-style editing without installing anything or paying Adobe prices. It runs in the browser, with iOS, Android and desktop apps as well.
It’s split into several tools:
- Pixlr Editor for advanced, layer-based photo editing
- Pixlr Express for quick, one-click edits and effects
- Design templates for social posts, flyers and more
- AI image and video generation, face swap and background removal
- An AI agent for guided creative tasks
The free plan gives you the basic editor with ads and daily export limits, but no AI credits. Paid plans are among the cheapest in the category. Plus costs about $1.99 per month billed yearly ($2.49 monthly) with a small AI credit allowance. Premium costs about $7.99 per month billed yearly ($9.99 monthly) with 1,000 AI credits, ad-free editing and access to all models. Ultra offers up to 10,000 credits for heavy AI users. Credits reset monthly and don’t roll over.
Pixlr is excellent value for photo editing, but its design templates are less extensive than Canva’s, and the ads on the free plan can be distracting. For free or cheap Photoshop-style edits in a browser, it’s a great choice.
