Microsoft Designer is Microsoft’s AI-first design app, and it’s a fast way to get a first draft of a flyer. Instead of browsing templates, you type what you want — for example, “flyer for a Saturday bake sale at the community hall” — and Designer generates several flyer designs with images and layouts to choose from.
Useful features for flyers include:
- Prompt-to-design flyer generation
- AI image generation for custom visuals
- Templates and a simple drag-and-drop editor
- Background removal and image editing
- Integration with Word, PowerPoint and OneDrive for Microsoft 365 users
Designer is free with a Microsoft account, which includes a small monthly allowance of AI credits — around 15 per month — enough for occasional flyers. Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers get a larger shared allowance, and Copilot Pro adds faster, priority generation.
The limits are real: the free credit allowance runs out quickly, there are fewer flyer templates than Canva or PosterMyWall, brand controls are basic and there’s no built-in printing. For quick, free flyer drafts, especially if you already use Microsoft 365, it’s a handy starting point.
